Shiloh was a two-day Civil War battle on April 6th and 7th of 1862. The Battle of Shiloh is also called the Battle of Pittsburgh Landing and was a devastating loss for the Confederate Army that started a six-month struggle for the key railroad junction at Corinth. The National Military Park commemorates and preserves information about the battles of Shiloh and Corinth.
The battlefield park is one of the best preserved in the U.S., according to Civil War Traveler, an extensive website detailing all of the Civil War Trails sites in Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and West Virginia. Tennessee is the only one of the five states where the entire state is declared officially a "Civil War area." The number of Civil War historic sites in Tennessee is second only to Virginia.
